Dag 2: Fernie - Sparwood
De eerste nacht in de tent was een ervaring. We kampeerden op een voetbalterrein en iets na middernacht schoot het bewateringsysteem in gang. Elke 30 seconden kregen we een regenbui van enkele seconden, een uur lang :-)
Fris als een vis begonnen we de dag, een droge dag. Na een stevig ontbijt begonnen we om 9u aan een lange klim uit Fernie. We klommen 1100m in een 30km, van fire road naar single track, alsmaar steiler. Het laatste stuk wass echt pittig, we waren op Porky Blue op 2100m. Het hoogtepunt van de dag volgde: een gloednieuwe single track van 6km die ons een dikke 1000m liet dalen. De remmen roodgloeiend bij sommigen, fun fun!
De laatste 30km waren glooiende double track. Filip en ik hadden nog wat reserve dus we konden wat goedmaken in het klassement. Team voor team haalden we in en we reden tevreden over de finish in 4u53, goed voor een 26e plaats. We stijgen in het klassement van 33 naar 28. Hopelijk hebben we morgen evenveel pit. Er wacht ons 65km en 1900hm, enkele keren de rivier over, de oversteek van de continental divide op 2350m en een overnachting in de wildernis. Vanaf vandaag tot en met donderdag is hier in de Rockies geen gsm-ontvangst, enkel draadloos internet via satelliet.
